This is an era of information explosion.

News becomes outdated in four hours. Newspaper headlines spread on social media at night and become stale by morning. There is Twitter, Facebook, YouTube.

Along with this, there is a narrative that people's attention span is continuously decreasing. People want to watch, not read. News is entertainment, entertainment is news. The line between fake and real is blurring. AI is the cure for every ailment. The difference between writer and reader is vanishing. The distinction between truth and falsehood is fading. And many such things.

In such a scenario, when we bring this new news website under the name The Credible News, the first question that comes to mind is why? What was the need for it? What will it do that hasn't been done before? Who will read it? Why will they read it?

The questions are entirely valid, and the biggest responsibility of this website is to find complete answers to these questions, because what we have right now is enthusiasm, a passion, a hazy picture of that dream which we want to turn into reality.

When we started the The Credible History YouTube channel, we had only this - enthusiasm, passion, a hazy picture of that dream which we wanted to turn into reality. Covering everything from history to international and national news, we learned a lot, and the kind of support and cooperation you all provided multiplied our courage manifold.

News is not just information.

A flood came, a village was swept away, this is information, but it remains incomplete until it is told that even after eighty years of independence, no system was put in place to prevent it, or that if the nearby forest had not been cut for an industrialist, the village would not have been swept away. So information is just the beginning; analysis is what makes it news. It presents the complete picture.

Therefore, we are starting with the emphasis on analysis instead of the bombardment of information.

The path we have chosen for ourselves is - questions, dialogue, concerns.

Questions

The first job of journalism is to doubt, to ask questions.

Questions to the power. Questions to the powerful. Questions to those who make policies.

A person who bows before the powerful and stands firm before the poor can be anything but a journalist.

Our effort is to become the spokesperson of the public. Our effort is to bring forth those questions that get suppressed in the noise of power.

Dialogue

The entire structure of democracy is based on dialogue. What is Parliament? It is a place where the ruling and opposition engage in dialogue, ask questions. In court too, the prosecution and defense engage in dialogue, debate.

In reality, the biggest difference between democracy and dictatorship is that in dictatorship, there is no place for asking questions or dialogue. The order of one person is final. This is why a dictator wants journalism that does not engage in dialogue with the public but presents his words as the ultimate truth. Every voice of dissent is labeled anti-national. Praise and blind devotion to the dictator are made synonymous with patriotism. Honest journalism prepares resistance against this.

And this resistance is not possible without the power of the public, which is why dialogue with the public instead of power is necessary. Our effort is to establish this dialogue. For us, you all are correspondents. You all can write here. You can make us aware of the problems around you.

The more extensive and stronger this dialogue is, the better the health of democracy will be.

Concerns

The newspapers that emerged during the freedom struggle aimed to spread social-political consciousness in the country. Their concerns were very clear, and that is why journalism was considered more of a social work than a money-making venture.

Times changed. Journalism turned into a profit-making business. Big money players entered, and then newspapers gradually became a shield for their other businesses. Naturally, in such a scenario, the space for social concerns shrank, and then came the era of lapdog media where two big business houses took over the channels. Such journalists emerged who even explained the benefits of price hikes!

At The Credible News, our effort is to fulfill that social responsibility.

We are starting with these intentions, where we will reach, only time will tell.
