Rahu Gandhi stages protest outside PM's residence, demands Modi and Shah resign

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi insists both PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah should step down.

In protest against irregularities in competitive exams, paper leaks, and the police action on students during the Parliament march on Monday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with several party leaders, staged a sit-in outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official residence on Tuesday. During this, Congress leaders demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, raising slogans against the central government. Rahul Gandhi said that PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah should apologise to the students and resign immediately.

Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other Congress MPs reached 7, Lok Kalyan Marg in the afternoon and sat on a dharna outside the security cordon. Police officials, citing it as a high-security area, urged the Congress leaders to end the protest and leave the premises.

Attacking the central government, Rahul Gandhi wrote on X,

"We have marched to Prime Minister Modi's residence to demand answers about the brutality faced by young students yesterday. The Prime Minister and Home Minister should resign for ruining the future of India's youth." Earlier, he had stated that instead of lathi-charging the students, the government should listen to them, and the Prime Minister should apologise for the incident.

This protest outside the Prime Minister's residence occurred a few hours after Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in Delhi to meet the students and protesters injured in the police action. These students and supporters of the CPJ were marching to Parliament in protest against paper leaks and other irregularities in competitive exams. The protesters demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and comprehensive reforms in the examination system. Several people were injured after clashes between the police and protesters on Parliament Street on Monday.
