Naseeruddin Shah voices anger over police action on students

Naseeruddin Shah criticizes police action against students protesting at Jantar Mantar.

Naseeruddin Shah has strongly reacted to the police action against students protesting at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. He released an emotional video on social media, raising his voice in support of the students and criticizing the police action.

In the video, Naseeruddin Shah said,

"If an unknown and insensitive person holds the reins of the country, he wants to make the entire nation the same." He shared that despite being trained at the National School of Drama (NSD) and the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), the greatest lessons in acting he received were from the students and youths he tried to teach.

Referring to the action against the students, Shah became emotional. He said that the way the youth were treated made his heart ache and his blood boil. He alleged that those attacking the protesters reminded him of masked agents who use force to suppress democratic voices.

He compared those involved in the action to the masked agents of America's immigration agency ICE. Appealing to the policemen and those involved in the action, he said,

"Think about your children too. Also, remember that one day everyone has to account for their actions."

At the end of his message, he encouraged the protesting students, saying they need not be disheartened. According to him, a large number of people in the country stand with the students and understand their struggle. He urged the youth to continue their fight, expressing even greater faith in the country's new generation. He also warned the government, saying, "What is happening today will be remembered by history. Everything will be remembered."

It is noteworthy that on Monday, during the Parliament march, the police in Delhi used lathi-charge and force against the protesting students, which was sharply criticized by many artists, intellectuals, and social figures.
