Mystery of the bubbling well in a Gujarat village

In our country, people often gather around any crowd they see, even if they do not know what is happening there. Whether it is a deity drinking milk or a deity sweating, people join the herd in many such mysterious events without knowing the reason. The latest case is a viral video from Morbi district in Gujarat. In this video, people are seen gathering around a well and looking at its water. Initially, some people suspected it to be related to seismic activity, but officials have denied any such possibility for now.
According to media reports, there has been continuous movement in an approximately 18-foot deep well located in Pranjivan Sadaria's field in Veerparda village of the district since 2nd August 2026, and its water is continuously shaking. The video from the site shows the water in the well rising to one side and then moving to the other. Several times, the water is seen overflowing from the well on its own, while astonished villagers stand around watching it.
According to the well owner, Pranjivan Sadaria, this unusual activity started on 2nd August. This well was constructed just three months ago. He stated,
"When I reached my field on Sunday, the water from the well was overflowing from the edge, and it has been happening continuously since then."
Local residents reported that,
on Sunday and Monday, clear movement was visible on the water's surface. On Tuesday, this activity stopped for some time, but it resumed on Wednesday and Thursday, increasing the mystery surrounding the well. There are two or three other wells nearby, but their water is completely calm, which has further increased people's suspicion.
Hundreds of curious people from nearby villages are arriving to witness this unusual sight. Drivers passing by on the nearby highway are also stopping to see the continuously moving water. People are watching this event in amazement and recording videos on their mobile phones. Some are calling it a miracle, while others believe there might be a scientific reason behind this unusual movement of water.
After the video of the incident and its news spread, initially, many locals suspected that this strange movement of water might be related to seismic activity. However, the district administration has denied any connection to an earthquake and stated that this event appears to be due to some natural geological process.
District Geologist J. S. Vadher said,
Initial investigations have not found any signs of seismic activity. He stated, "This is not seismic activity. At first glance, it seems that after heavy rainfall in the upper areas, groundwater is recharging, and air trapped in the micro voids of rocks is escaping, causing this movement in the well's water."
Officials have also contacted the Earthquake Research Institute in Gandhinagar. According to reports, the institute has confirmed that there is no active fault line beneath this area. Due to recent heavy rains, underground aquifers have rapidly recharged. As the groundwater level rises, air trapped in the underground rocks may have escaped through cracks and micro-pores, causing continuous movement on the water's surface.
Morbi District Collector Swapnil Khare stated that the Gujarat government has been informed about this incident, and a team of scientists from Gandhinagar will visit the site for a detailed study. He said, "We have informed the Gujarat government about it, and a team from Gandhinagar will visit the site for further investigation."
Although the initial assessment considers groundwater recharge as the most likely cause of this incident, officials say that the exact reason for this unusual movement in the water will only be clear after experts complete their investigation. Until then, this mysterious well remains a center of attraction for local people and visitors, turning a quiet village in Morbi into a hub of widespread discussion and curiosity.
