DU advises students to steer clear of Jantar Mantar protests

Delhi University has instructed students to avoid the Jantar Mantar protests.

After IIT Roorkee and Delhi University advised students and staff not to participate in the ongoing protests against the NEET paper leak, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi issued a similar advisory on Friday. The university emphasized the safety of students and responsible behavior, warning of legal and disciplinary action for violating rules.

Delhi University's advisory drew a sharp reaction from Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

He posted on X, writing:

How dare you... "How dare you threaten students for exercising their democratic rights? Remember, when the time comes, you will be held accountable."

Delhi University (DU) has asked its students and faculty to "stay away from Jantar Mantar," where a large number of students are protesting against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2026 paper leak.

In a post on X on Thursday, 23rd July, the university advised students not to participate in the demonstrations at the protest site, citing concerns over student safety, legal consequences, and the impact on their studies.

This is happening while student protests continue at Jantar Mantar. The protesters are demanding accountability for the NEET-UG paper leak, reforms in the examination, and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The university stated in its post that

"Any unlawful gathering or demonstration at Jantar Mantar - which is strictly regulated as per the directives of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India - may lead to legal action." The university further stated that participating in such activities "could pose a serious threat to students' safety and adversely affect their studies and careers."
