Aamir Khan clarifies wives never changed their religion
Aamir Khan stated that his wife Gauri is Christian, not Hindu, and none of his wives changed their religion after marriage.
Actor Aamir Khan has responded for the first time to allegations of 'love jihad' following his third marriage. It was being claimed on social media that his third wife, Gauri Spratt, is Hindu, and that his first two wives were also Hindu. Amidst this controversy, a fatwa was issued against him in Uttar Pradesh. Aamir has now clarified that Gauri is not Hindu, but Christian, and none of his wives have changed their religion after marriage. He also mentioned that his life is becoming more interesting with time.
Aamir Khan had a civil marriage with Gauri Spratt on July 5. Following this, Bajrang Dal and some Hindu organisations accused him of 'love jihad'. Recently, a fatwa was issued against him in Uttar Pradesh, labeling him a 'sinful Muslim man'. Aamir has now broken his silence on these allegations.
This is the 61-year-old Aamir Khan's third marriage. His first marriage was with Reena Dutta, which ended after about 16 years. He then married Kiran Rao, but they later separated. Now, he has started a new life with Gauri Spratt. It is this marriage that has led several organisations to accuse him of 'love jihad', even claiming that all three of his wives have been Hindu.
In an interview with 'Rediff', Aamir Khan said,
"His wife Gauri Spratt is not Hindu, but Christian, and none of his wives have ever changed their religion. The truth is that our family respects all religions. Both my sisters are married to Hindus. My daughter has also married a Hindu. My cousin Mansoor has married a Christian woman."
Aamir further stated,
"Neither Gauri, Kiran, nor Reena have changed their religion, as all our marriages have been civil. Gauri is not Hindu, but Christian, and she does not strictly follow her religion. As time passes, life is becoming more enjoyable."
Meanwhile, in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, the state's Shahi Chief Mufti Maulana Chaudhary Ibraheem Hussain issued a fatwa against Aamir Khan on July 14. A video has also surfaced in which he states that according to Islamic teachings, it is permissible for a Muslim man to marry a Muslim woman. He said that if a Muslim man marries a non-Muslim woman who remains in her faith, it is not considered in accordance with Islamic rules.
It is noteworthy that Aamir Khan is the father of a son and a daughter with his first wife, Reena Dutta. He has a son, Azad Rao, with his second wife, Kiran Rao. His third wife, Gauri Spratt, is divorced and has a son from her previous marriage.
